SIPHUNCEDO KINDERGARTEN
![]() Our preschool project is being built with real children in mind. It includes two bright, welcoming classrooms where little ones can feel safe to learn and play, a kitchen that helps us provide daily meals, and outdoor toilets made from a converted container so that basic dignity and hygiene are never an afterthought. | ![]() Konga is one of the quiet pillars of this initiative. After the sad passing of Peggy, Konga stepped forward to continue the township walking tours, carrying that responsibility with dignity and heart and ensuring the children of Siphuncedo Kindergarten are not forgotten. | ![]() In the spirit of the festive season, we recently had the joy of sharing gifts with the children of the kindergarten. Each child received a puzzle designed to encourage curiosity, problem solving, and interactive play! |
|---|---|---|
![]() These gifts were given with care and intention, not just to celebrate Christmas, but to remind each child that they are seen, valued, and deserving of thoughtful attention. Moments like these are at the heart of what we do, simple acts of kindness that create lasting warmth and belonging. | ![]() As the need continues to grow, so does our vision. In the near future, we hope to build an additional structure that will allow us to welcome more children into the preschool. Our goal is simple. No child should be turned away because there is no space. We want this project to grow alongside the community it serves. | ![]() We encourage anyone who feels connected to this work to support and donate towards the initiative. Every contribution helps children access education, feel supported, and believe in what is possible for their future. At the same time, it helps strengthen the local economy and builds a community where children are free to learn, grow, and dream. |
KHAYELITSHA COMMUNITY HUB
![]() At the Khayelitsha Community Hub, items that would normally be thrown away are given a second chance. | ![]() Discarded chip packets and other plastics are collected, carefully cleaned, and transformed into durable thread. These materials are then woven together with mixed cottons to create beautiful, practical pieces such as handbags, purses, rugs, and everyday accessories. | ![]() What begins as waste becomes something valuable, not only reducing pollution but also creating steady income opportunities for local artisans. |
|---|---|---|
![]() This initiative turns everyday trash into a source of pride, creativity, and empowerment, proving that sustainability and livelihood can grow hand in hand. | ![]() The Khayelitsha Community Hub is built on a commitment to empower local artists and craftspeople by creating opportunities where their skills, stories, and creativity are valued and supported. | ![]() Through access to resources, training, and sustainable income opportunities, the hub aims to help local talent thrive while preserving cultural expression and encouraging environmentally responsible practices. |
![]() Siyanda SopangisaSiyanda is the founder of the Khayelitsha Community Hub and a passionate pioneer of sustainable tourism and community led development. By bringing people together in this way, the hub seeks to nurture connection, pride, and a future shaped by creativity and shared purpose. | ![]() The Khayelitsha Canoe Club is about far more than learning how to swim or paddle. It is a youth driven movement rooted in environmental care, community pride, and positive change. | ![]() The community hub members clean the wetlands together, protecting local wildlife and building a deep sense of responsibility for their environment. |
![]() Beyond the water, the club helps creates job opportunities, and offers eco tourism experiences such as guided canoe and township tours, all led by local youth. | ![]() It stands as a powerful example of how sport, education, and environmental action can come together to reshape a community from the inside out. | ![]() At its heart, the hub is a safe and welcoming space for people from all walks of life. It invites individuals to express their creativity, share their passions, and take part in a collective vision for sustainable tourism that is inclusive, respectful, and community led. |
iTHEMBA ELITSHA
![]() iThemba Elitsha, meaning “new hope” in Zulu, is a community driven initiative focused on uplifting children and young people in the township of Kleinmond, South Africa. Founded in 2017, the project was born from a shared desire to create real opportunity in a community shaped by historic inequality, unemployment, and limited access to resources. | ![]() At iThemba Elitsha, we believe that new hope begins with showing up every day. By creating safe spaces, meeting basic needs, and investing in young people, we are working towards a brighter and more hopeful future for every child we serve. Through our after school care and youth centre, we provide 50 children with a safe and supportive place to learn, grow, and simply be children. Here, they receive homework assistance, life skills guidance, and a sense of belonging. |
